→The Montgomery Zoo is genuinely better on weekday evenings (5–8pm during summer hours). Fewer people, cooler temperatures, animals are active. Buy tickets online to skip the gate line.
→The Wetumpka Amphitheater (now WETUMPKA DEPOT) is an underused gem. Check their summer schedule in May — evening shows in that setting are magical for older kids.
→Rosa Parks Museum and the Civil Rights Memorial are both free or low-cost and air-conditioned. They make for a meaningful summer field trip that connects to curriculum.
→Splash pads at local parks are free and open through Labor Day. Oak Park in Montgomery has the best equipment. Go before 10am to avoid the crowd.
