It’s hard to believe we are approaching the end of another school year. It doesn’t seem long ago that kindergartners were anticipating their very first day of school and seniors were preparing to begin their final year of high school.
May often feels like a time of endings. Students say goodbye to teachers and friends, families prepare for moves to new cities, and an entire class of graduates walks their school halls one last time. But May is also a time for celebrations and new beginnings.
Teachers get to witness the academic growth their students have made throughout the year. Some children will leave for summer break reading confidently when, just last August, they were still sounding out words. Older students are preparing for science camps, summer jobs, and new experiences that await them. We’re proud to continue supporting learning through the summer with opportunities offered at Pike Road Elementary and Intermediate Schools.
There are many celebrations to look forward to this month! Our third graders will be celebrated as they prepare to leave the elementary school, and sixth graders will be recognized for their accomplishments before moving up to junior high. We’re also excited to celebrate our incredible teachers and staff during Teacher Appreciation Week. Their dedication, creativity, and care deserve to be recognized—not just during this special week, but all year long. These milestones and moments of gratitude are meaningful, marking the growth and progress of our students and the people who support them every step of the way.
Not all of our celebrations are formal ceremonies. Some are beloved traditions that bring our schools together. One of the most cherished is when our seniors walk the halls of all three campuses in their caps and gowns, receiving cheers and well wishes from younger students and former teachers. They’ll also participate in their “last drive,” leaving campus together one final time as a class. Families and community members will soon gather for Senior Recognition Night—and, of course, we will celebrate the Class of 2025 during graduation as they walk across the stage to accept their diplomas.
As we wrap up the school year, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our teachers and staff for their dedication to our students. To our families—thank you for your partnership. Your support at home makes a powerful impact in our schools.
Wishing you a joyful and restful summer ahead. Go Patriots!
