Happy 2026! There’s something about the start of a new year that naturally gets parents thinking ahead. January has a way of bringing those big questions to the surface—especially when it comes to our kids, their education, and how we’re helping guide them toward what’s next.

That’s why this Education Issue of River Region Parents is always such an important one. Inside, you’ll find our comprehensive Private School Guide, created to help families explore the many excellent educational options available across the River Region. Whether you’re actively searching, planning ahead, or just wanting to better understand what’s out there, we hope it serves as a helpful starting point. Our feature “A 3-Step Strategy to Choosing a Private School” walks through that process in a clear, practical way—because finding the right fit matters just as much as academics.

For parents of older kids, we’re excited to share The Ultimate Guide to Summer Pre-college Programs, which many families don’t even realize exist. These programs give high school students the chance to “test-drive” college—taking classes on a college campus, exploring potential majors, and gaining independence in a supportive environment.

Programs range from one to several weeks and can be residential, commuter, or even online. While they don’t guarantee college acceptance, they can help students discover what they’re interested in, experience campus life, and feel more confident when the time comes to apply.

This issue also reflects the people behind all of those decisions. In Mom to Mom, Edris Davis shares her journey of raising children through years of deep involvement in their schools and the arts, and the emotional shift that came with an earlier-than-expected empty nest. Her story is honest, thoughtful, and a reminder that parenting changes with every season.

Our featured grandparents, Danielle and Matt Drolette, show just how meaningful presence can be—through sleepovers, bedtime stories, cheering from the stands, and Sunday church together. Their story is a beautiful picture of how faith, values, and connection are passed down in everyday moments.

Finally, River Region Parents kicks off its 31st year of partnering with families, schools and businesses in the community with this January issue. We look forward to serving you for many years to come. Here’s to a new year filled with learning, growth, and wonderful family memories!
